last peasant shirt - i promise
so i made one more peasant shirt. i know i am obsessed, but i think i figured it out this time and it is just the perfect summer top.
for a better fit on this top take out an inch on the neckband. when cutting out the pattern i just pinched out an inch of the middle on the pattern piece like the following picture (1/2 inch on each side). if i were you i would make the front neckband out of some scrap fabric before cutting out your real fabric just to make sure it fits right. this adjustment made all of the difference in this top. on my other two i feel like i am constantly adjusting them because they come down too low or fall off the shoulder. this took care of that.
some design changes i made was adding a ruffle at the bottom of the neckband and extending the sleeves to 3/4 by just adding about 5 inches to the bottom of the pattern.
I love 3/4 length sleeves so I might try to my hand at lengthening the sleeves as well!It looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh that ruffle is darling!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI have washed the fabric for mine and will start cutting today.
I am also planning on adding to the sleeve, I need to cover my fatty upper arms.
Wish me luck!
I am going to conquer the beast!
I love it. All o fyour shirts were so cute. I hope that someday I can just make little adjustments to the pattern like you do. But for now, I'm just happy to make it through following the pattern exactly.
ReplyDeletei can't wait to see your shirts. good luck!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to come back and see all the sewing that has been going on. I'd love to make this top, but need to sit it out. It's a little crazy around here post surgery. Just go ahead a sew another one for me Kell.
ReplyDeleteSO cute. I love the ruffle.
ReplyDeleteKelly, thanks for the comment on MADE. This sewing group looks too fun! I'm adding your site to my google reader!
ReplyDeleteI love that top! I just came across your blog and I love the idea of a sewing group. If I find time, I may just have to sew along! I mostly sew for my girls, but recently made a top for myself and while it's nothing exciting, I'd like to do some more sewing for me! You can check out my blog at www.seamssimple.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletejust found your blog and love it! i love to sew and love fashion. i look forward to being a reader of this blog!
ReplyDeleteI think that shirt is my favorite so far. I'm definitely jealous of your sewing abilities.
ReplyDeletelove it love it love it! I think I love peasant tops too much. I've never made one, probably because I already own too many that I've bought but this is great inspiration. I love the color and fabric, too. I love the sewing group idea!
ReplyDeleteYou know I ended up doing that exact same thing with that darned neck piece. You'd think they didn't test their patterns over there at McCalls (or they have really wide people?)...Love the ruffle! Your top is really fab.
ReplyDeleteBTW, am posting other fab Spring Top tomorrow -- look for it! (:
This looks great, and it's a brilliant adjustment too. I used this pattern about a month ago. I love my top, but the neckline is definitely too big. I think I'll have to try this. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteIs this top lined or do you happen to be showing a cami underneath it? Its super cute!
ReplyDeleteno its not lined. i just wear it with a cami underneith. the fabric is a really shear cotton and i wanted it that way so that it would flow nicely.
