Shirt Dress Finished

I finally finished my first shirtdress. I had some trouble with the neckline and sleeves (I think because I didn't have a serger or a model to try it on) so I finally just chopped the top off and made it a spaghetti strap dress. I added some ruffles to the bodice front and the pocket to the skirt.

I have no idea if it will actually fit a real child, but I am happy with the way it looks on a hanger.

  1. I'm confident it will fit a real child, probably a 2-3 year old like the orginal pattern. I love the ruffles on the bodice.

  2. I'm glad to hear that someone else had trouble with the neckline too! But I didn't have the presence of mind to try changing it. Mine just looks really sloppy and the elastic is kind of covering up all the pinches in my neckline. I also love the ruffles on the bodice. The dress is so cute. This blog is an inspiration. Maybe I'll learn to be a bit more creative with my sewing someday like you guys. For now, I think I'm still working on my basic skills. But I'm enjoying it. I'm so glad you and Rian started this blog!

  3. I had enormous trouble with the neckline, too. I finally gave up and made a bias tape casing, which worked pretty well and didn't ripple too much. I blogged about it here, if you're interested - http://katiekadiddlehopper.blogspot.com/search/label/MADE

  9. I hate sewing without a body for reference. Your dress turned out really cute though, even without a little girl to try it on.

  10. It's gorgeous Kelli. And if you said the modifications were deliberate, we'd have never know how they really came about! They look great. And I'm now going to take your lead and post about my dress by putting it on a hanger, not the child it was intended for, as it doesn't fit! She lives about 1 hour away and by guessing about size was not good.
